VF #21 (PS2 60fps) VF4: can I make a non-evading Wolf AI?
After a fairly lengthy process of hands-on sparring, VS, and Kumite, I managed to create a pretty decent Lei-Fei AI character in Virtua Fighter 4 on PS2 who doesn't use evade /dodge / side-step much, which is good because on the whole I kinda find that move annoying (if ya ask me there should be side-stepping, to change your angle of attack for the sake of tactical positioning, but not this easy one-step dodge business the game lets you do with it--of course, nobody seems to ask me ; D).
I did though have just a few moves left that my Lei-Fei still needed to learn:
0:33 - Sparring with my Lei-Fei, filling in some missing moves (that wwoowoowoo sound you hear from time to time is when he learns a new move)
10:25 - Under Data Files - Edit File - Status - Move mastery (move l or r w/ the d-pad), you can see a list of how well your AI knows their move list, including moves they don't know, which are greyed-out. So there's a bit of a process of writing down those names, looking up how to do the move, possibly in Training, then teaching it to the AI in Sparring. Some of them you probably won't be able to teach because they're very situational, like throwing a crouching character or something, but eh hm come to think of it maybe I could have made him do a move that would have forced him into a crouch briefly. : P
12:44 - Training - looking up my AI's missing moves
13:57 - Ah yeah see here's one, Toutenshou: you have to be in a specific stance, with the opponent somehow behind you. I don't think I figured out how to demonstrate that one on the AI. In fact the rest here were write-offs, so it's on to making a Wolf!
17:46 - Sparring with my new Wolf AI. Wolf of course has some tricky throws to try to teach them. And I'm avoiding teaching him evade moves.
35:00 - With my Lei-Fei AI I went through a lot of rounds of personal Vs... This time I tried just throwing newb Wolf into Kumite overnight. He was clueless at first, of course, poor lil' guy.
1:01:22 - By morning though he was 2nd Dan and pretty frisky--he was also side-stepping and evading his Kumite opponents pretty readily. Uh-oh.
