Video games are commonly argued as being too expensive to make, and as a result we need microtransactions, loot boxes, card packs and all manner of other ethically grey post-purchase monetizations. We've had controversies around Shadow of War, Assassin's Creed Origins, Forza 7, Star Wars Battlefront 2 because of they microtransactions. I dove into the financial documents to analyze the trends in game cost and revenue to find out if video games really are too expensive to make and what I turned up may surprise you. Are they really too expensive to make and produce, or has this argument been constructed out of nothing?
