With Industry 4.0 and Smart Manufacturing the need of communication and interoperability of machines and the Internet of Things (IoT) became bigger and bigger. Due to that the diversity and complexity of communication protocols to transport data like measurements or process information increased rapidly. A lot of established protocols in the manufacturing context (e.g. OPC UA or MQTT) focus mainly on the specification how to transport the data, not on the content itself. Furthermore by the rapid development of new standards to transport data, it becomes difficult for SME to be up to date und understand these technologies.

Eclipse Unide is an attempt to establish the Production Performance Management Protocol (PPMP) that focusses on standardizing the content of messages as an open Industry 4.0 standard and develop it further by Eclipse community. By providing simple tools and source code we want help interested parties to get in touch with Industry 4.0 easily and make their own implementation by using these functionalities.

This webinar will explain what Unide and PPMP are about and how they are used in the real manufacturing business.
