[VLDC14] Pee Puddles - Edited Blind Playthrough
Author: Hidincuzimsmokin
Place: 49th (standard)
Thanks, now I hate Bowser so much worse. Out of every theme in the wide world, this had to be chosen. Really, ~ This is disgusting ~. The only thing about the theme itself where the author really tried, was the "Pee" switch. Even though it turns pee puddles into coins, there's no ExAnimation for them whatsoever. A lot of the level's graphics cover too many things, and so much being yellow isn't really pleasant to eyes, either. Even some tangible blocks look like background tiles. Lots of cutoff, even one of the treetrunks has a glaring one. Broken sprite graphics here and there (how in the actual heck did Mario's shoes turn into MUSHROOMS?!). BTW, why is a vanilla cave theme playing over a forest level? It doesn't fit, especially with its SFX echo. This level is based on item babysitting. The whole thing looks like a maze, and in the beginning, I could easily mistake paths playing for the first time. There's not even a way that keeps me away from collecting the red mushroom without a crucial item, as I'm forced to turn small when I have to return for the portable springboard. But you have to climb a freaking vine with it, which is not what you'd expect from your average player. Even when I obtain the springboard, I could cheese the level by jumping directly for the moon. You also get greeted with a precise P-speed jump for absolutely no reason. For whatever reason, my second Yoshi would become invisible, making obtaining the star an ordeal. You collect the star and wait until it expires or there's no way out. Fail once in the 2nd part of the level and you can get softlocked if you're an inexperienced player. You have to wait out the timer or perform a wall jump. Many of the challenges seem to be trivial, such as running above one-tile spaces or tight swimming segments. And yay, I can get all Dragon Coins at once! I kinda liked that anti-troll at the end of the level, though. Regardless of that, the previous level was so much more enjoyable, and that one placed only slightly higher. 49th place was too generous.
In this series, I will be playing levels from SMW Central's Vanilla Level Design Contest 2024. All playthroughs of standard levels will stay blind, albeit their respective videos will be all edited. This means that I only play the levels for the first time while capturing footage. However, an exception will be made for kaizo entries. After I've played them blind first, I'll record their replays and only leave successful attempts.
Super Mario World belongs to Nintendo. I don't own the game itself nor do I monetize its contents. This video wasn't made for business anyway and its sole purpose is showoff and entertainment.
