Voodoo Flossing For Climbers: De-Pump and Send Hard
Be smart. Don't be an idiot. If you are injured, go see your doctor.
TO DE-PUMP and SEND HARD:
1. Get yourself a band - I use this old rubber belt from one of my kid's rain coat. Or, purchase a voodoo wrap from Amazon.
2. Anchor one end in your hand and begin wrapping as tightly as is comfortable for you.
3. Go through some range of motion movements - whatever feels good to your arms.
4. Only use the voodoo floss for 30 seconds to 1 minute - maybe up to 2 minutes if you are comfortable with that.
5. Al Muerte ! ! ! Send Hard ! ! !
July of 2015, I made the "Why Every Climber Should Experiment With Voodoo Flossing" video. About that time, I began using this voodoo flossing method to de-pump during my climbing sessions.
It has been amazing.
If you find yourself pumped in the middle of a session, I strongly recommend that you try this method to see if it works for you.
Only you can know if it is effective for you.
You can watch this 28-minute video with Dr. Kelly Starrett and Gary Reinl https://youtu.be/0UmJVgEWZu4 to get a better understanding of the physiology of what happens when you apply the Voodoo Floss to your body.
In very basic term: Super compression displaces the old lymph fluid and deoxygenated blood. Removing the compression, then allows oxygenated blood to come back into your muscles.
The video I refer to above, talks in the context of acute injury. However, I decided to take that one step further and apply it to my forearms when they are getting pumped.
