Leave No Trace Tip - Pick Up Trash With A Baggie
Leave No Trace Tip: Use a Plastic Bag / Baggie To Pick Up Other Climber's Orange Peels, Banana Peels, Pistachio Shells, etc...
I almost always have an old pair of work gloves in my Jeep that I put on before I clean up other climber's trash. On this bouldering trip to Fountain Red, I did not have my work gloves with me; so I improvised...
...using a ziploc baggie, I cleaned up some other climber's orange peels. Most pet owners will be familiar with the technique of turning a bag inside out to pick up your pet's waste.
Yeah, I don't want to touch some random trash in the wild. Protect your hands. Put on gloves...or use this baggie method.
How Long does it take to Decompose?
Orange peels - 6 months
Banana Peel - 3-4 weeks
Apple Core - 2 months
Pistachio Shells - 2-3 YEARS
Practice your Leave No Trace principles: Don't leave any peels or shells or trash at your climbing or camping locations. Pack it out.
