vQuake (Work in progress vid #8) with Dosbox-Rendition and RReady Rendition Verité @4k
Corrected a serious byte ordering bug in V_FIFO_MEM_WRITE_RECT. I'm not entirely sure how I missed this. This function call is used to write to a rectangular section of VRAM, like a rectangular sprite on the screen, though it doesn't have to be on screen, it could be anywhere in VRAM. The data written isn't contiguous in address space, part of each scanline is written to. So the output bytes aren't contiguous. The bug was that byte swapping (such as little endian/big endian though Rendition supports other types ) treated the data as being contiguous.
I don't know whether YouTube will have the image quality for the defect to be visible.
This affected vQuake only out of the Speedy3D apps and none of the RRedline ones. But everything needs to be retested with the fix. So far the DOS (Speedy3D) apps seem fine.
The alpha build is available here (note this is not a fully tested build, though vQuake 1 should run fine):

The work on Descent 2 is ongoing. It may take a while. This build urgently needs to be tested to see if RRedline still works properly and when that's done it'll be pushed out to the store and as a fully tested alpha build. It's going to take while.
