The story begins when a mysterious substance called Gloom, oozes out from beneath Hyrule Castle, and makes people very sick. As our heroes Link and Zelda explore the uncharted, labirynthian caverns beneath the castle, they stumble upon a mummified corpse, being held in place by a glowing arm. The arm falls off along with a tear shaped gemstone, and the dead corpse comes to life and attacks our heroes. Link's right arm is gravely injured, and his Master Sword was badly damaged. Zelda fell into the fissure and Link tries to save her. She disappears and link nearly fell to his death. Link nearly succumbs to Gloom poisoning when the mysterious glowing arm rescues him. the two heroes are separated, and Link wakes up in a mysterious cavern, in his underwear. He found his Master Sword, but it is severely damaged. He also finds that the arm that rescued him is now a part of him. Upon exiting the cave, he finds himself on a series of floating islands in the sky.
