[Synopsis]

In this video, I do a review on the PLA QN506 light tank, and this is a level 10 armored vehicle in the Chinese branch in War Thunder. This vehicle is similar to the Russian BMPT Terminator which is a tank supporting vehicle, it fills the role of a anti-tank armored unit, fire support, and urban fighting. The Russian BMPT doesn't have a radar for air threats, like the QN506. The BMPT carries 4 9M120 Ataka SACLOS(Semi-automatic command to line of sight) anti-tank missiles. These are guided remotely to the target, they are not fire and forget missiles. Russia does not produce any fire and forget anti-tank missiles. The Terminator uses the hull of a T-72 main battle tank is about 3 kph faster than the QN506, but when it comes to its fire control system it is less advanced than the QN506 in many respects.

The Chinese QN506 light tank uses the hull of a Type 59 main battle tank which was derived from the Soviet T-54A mbt. The Soviets allowed the Chinese to produce a licensed version of their T-54A mbt in 1959, and that became the Type 59. The Type 59 was produced from 1959 to 1985, and it was exported to a number of countries, like Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Sudan, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, North Korea, and many other countries. The Type 59 has been phased out of the PLA, and replaced with more modern main battle tanks, like the Type 88, Type 90, Type 96, and Type 99 models. The Chinese military has a lot of Type 59 hulls, so this is why they might have chosen Type 59 hulls on a vehicle like this.

The QN506 has a good fire control system, it has thermal imaging equipment, night vision, laser ranger finder, and electro optical targeting tracking radar. It has a lot of guided missiles, like 20 QN201DD anti-tank SACLOS missiles, and 4 QN502DD fire and forget anti-tank missiles. The QN502DD was most likely derived from the HJ-12 which is the Chinese version of the FGM-148 Javelin. The QN502DD is a bigger missile, so it has a longer range, like 20 km vs. 4 km.

You can say the QN502 is like a armored fighting vehicle, anti-aircraft self propelled gun, anti-tank, anti-infantry, and anti light armor all rolled up in one. It has the high traverse speed, radar, missiles, and 30mm cannon to engage any kind of low flying aircraft, whether that be a fixed wing aircraft or a helicopter. It has a drone, and you can use it to spot for targets for artillery units. It has fire and forget missiles with tandom warheads that can take out the most modern main battle tanks. The smaller and more numerous QN201DDs can be used to take out vehicles, like AIFVs, APCs, armored utility vehicles, self propelled artillery pieces, bunkers, light tanks, and helicopters. The 30mm cannons can take out lightly armored vehicles, infantry, helicopters, and low flying aircraft. The Electro optical targeting tracking radar is effective up to 8 km or 8,000 meters. The radar will feed the data to the ballistic computer on where to aim.

The QN506 is like a multi purpose vehicle, which can be used to support infantry, and armored units as well. It is like the Russian BMPT, but it has more advanced electronics. This vehicle is very versatile.
