War Thunder: Ship vs Missile Extended Version
11I wanted to share some clips I recorded while attempting the "Ship vs. Missile" short video in War Thunder. I was inspired by a fantastic DCS short with the same title, and after seeing it, I thought the scene could be recreated in War Thunder.
Unfortunately, War Thunder's TV-guided missiles don't function as expected against naval targets. They don't lock onto the player's designated point on the ship, but instead, latch onto the model's center. I tried various options like AGM-65s, AGM-62s, GBUs, Soviet TV bombs and missiles, and even modern AGM-65s with supposed laser guidance – all exhibited the same behavior. Maybe I missed something, but ultimately, only Soviet laser-guided missiles allowed me to achieve the desired scene for the short video.
The entire process, from test recordings to editing, took me roughly seven hours for this simple project. Part of that time was due to War Thunder's quirky mechanics – a beautiful game, yes, but one not without its flaws.
