Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos (Hard) - Undead Campaign - Chapter 01: Trudging through the Ashes
After the events of Lordaeron we find ourselves with Arthas, now a Dreadlord being given advice by a Dreadlord, Tichondrius.
We are to rally the Cult of the Damned by finding Acolytes.
Quite a secret rich map to start with.
You'll want to be quit stealthy on this level, and even have periods of waiting for MP/HP replenishment. The Ghouls are the basic melee unit of the Undead, and they are arguably the weakest - at least they can be used to collect Lumber as well.
The first couple of Acolytes should be easy and once you have the Shade you can try and pull one of the Footmen from the group with the Captain. I somehow pulled all four, which didn't help at all. The Captain does drop a Greater Potion of Healing which helps a lot.
Unholy Aura is the Upgrade I choose to pump points into first, probably not as useful as Devotion Aura, but the Regeneration stacks nicely with the effect of Blight when it comes to defending.
One of the Horses behind the Barracks in the Pen is holding a Ring of Proetction +2. Skip to 15:00 once I start attacking the Barracks if you want.
Use the Shade to scout the next area out and approach via the shallows to the west. You'll get more reinfocements close to the centre of the map at the Graveyard. The extra Ghouls will help clear a path a bit later. I take out the Human Town Centre and the camp to the NW before heading through the gate. In the NE area you can see some crates behind houses, use Ghouls to attack the trees and reach the Crates and then slightly to the SE you'll see a longer path of trees leading to some Golems. The Rock Golem will drop Gauntlets of Ogre Strength +3 which will be very useful for Arthas given he is a Strength Hero again.
With this you can mop up the last few Acolytes easily.
The next task is to find the remains of Kel'Thuzad.
I have to admit that overall this will be my least favourite campaign.
There's a couple of levels you can do in neat ways, but I always found myself attacking at the wrong time and this seemed to add on at least 10-15 minutes to some of these levels. A definite step up from the Human Campaign, and probably harder than the next Campaign to be honest.
