Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill, former in-game leader of Renegades and now world class colour commentator, is the star of the 498th Episode of 'Reflections'. This is part three of four about SPUNJ's career.

SPUNJ made his name as part of Season 2 of the Championship Gaming Series (CGS), a DirecTV cable show which paid players in numerous titles a healthy salary to compete on American TV, playing for the Sydney Underground. The franchise struggled at the World Finals, but SPUNJ's Source team was able to win against fifflaren's Berlin Allianz.

With CGS dying out after that season, SPUNJ reappeared on international radars in early CS:GO competing with VOX Eminor, as the team finished fourth at MSI Beat It 2013. The team wouldn't manage to qualify for the first CS:GO major, but got an invite to the second. Early on there were some rough draws at majors, but in 2015 SPUNJ's men attended the offline qualifier for ESL One Katowice 2015 and defeated the Danes of Dignitas to qualify.

2015 was the best year for his team. At Gfinity Spring Masters II they at one point looked posed to shock the world and get into the play-offs after taking a map off both FNATIC and NiP. This would lead to being picked up as the new CS team of Renegades. At ESWC that summer they reached the quarter-finals and at ESL One Cologne came the now infamous upset of Titan in the group stage.

The year ended with a strong performance within NA, making it to second at the RGN Pro Series and only losing to Cloud9, considered the best NA side. 2016 saw some hard times and SPUNJ himself struggled with online criticism. Playing in ELEAGUE was perhaps a fitting swansong for one of Australia's best ever entertainers and in the following years SPUNJ would transition to on camera work.

As an analyst, SPUNJ was working the major in his first year and quickly rose through the ranks, particularly featured on ESL broadcasts. In 2020 he won the Esports Awards Analyst of the Year award. During the online period he switched to primarily being a colour commentator, working with host-turned-play-by-play MACHINE, and by the end of 2021 was picking up an award for that role too!

SPUNJ continues to be one of the elite commentary talents and is a mainstay on every major no matter the TO behind it.

In part three, SPUNJ talks about joining Renegades, beating Titan at ESL One Cologne, almost taking down VP in Australia, the dreaded MLG Columbus qualifier and retiring on a low.

This interview was recorded on the 30th of June, 2025.
