It would have only gotten easier to find such a cave if it existed because it gets narrower and narrower. The M Cave is not going to drop down like real manna from heaven 40 miles distant from where he thought it was. Unless the M Cave was a planted memory: a delusion caused by an external force. It could have been an UAP encounter that he confused for a cave. They could have messed with his mind.
