Greetings, Durag Nation! While all eyes are on Venom and the impending Symbiotic Relationships Panel at Comic-Con, I want to shift our attention to another significant Spider-Man antagonist set to enter the Insomniac universe: the Green Goblin. In addition, there's some crucial, and potentially disappointing, news about the Venom Comic-Con showcase that isn’t being livestreamed, and I need to provide a quick breakdown on it. So, if you're pumped for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, go ahead and hit that like button, but feel free to change it to a dislike if you're not satisfied by the end.

If you were to ask the entire Spider-Man community two questions, "Who is Venom?" and "Who is Green Goblin?", the answers would overwhelmingly point towards Harry Osborn for the first, and Norman for the second. Not only do I think this perception is inaccurate based on recent hints from Insomniac, but I also don't believe it aligns with the narrative they've been developing. I've previously made a detailed video explaining why I don't believe Harry can possibly be Venom, and what role I anticipate Eddie Brock will play in the story.

In summary, the symbiote has rejected Harry as a host in two different games. Moreover, Harry doesn't have a compelling narrative reason to become Venom. Consider this: Venom is almost always Eddie Brock because Eddie is a deeply flawed character who harbors a hatred for Spider-Man. Harry bears no such animosity, and his encounter with the symbiote only occurred because Norman thought it might cure him—a plan he abandoned in Miles Morales when it didn't work.

From the Spider-Man 2 gameplay, we know that Peter ultimately wrests the symbiote from Harry to revert Connors back to normal and save Harry. The symbiote doesn't provide a solution to Harry's main narrative problem—his health. The Goblin formula, however, might.

This is also why Norman would make an ideal Venom host. He's fundamentally flawed, the symbiote has already identified him as a potential host, and the many enemies he has necessitates him gaining power so he isn't helpless like he was against Octavius.

Moreover, this narrative is stronger. If Harry dies because Peter, distracted by the symbiote, fails to quickly and safely restore Connors, the guilt would be sufficient for Peter to reject the symbiote. The rage Norman would feel at losing his son because of Spider-Man would naturally make him the perfect Venom for this game, instead of introducing Eddie and fabricating a reason for him to hate Peter.

Equally compelling would be if Harry is administered the Goblin Serum as a cure, but Norman dies during the conflict with Spider-Man and Kraven, prompting Harry to assume the Green Goblin mantle to avenge his father.

This twist would enable Insomniac to surprise a majority of the audience while remaining true to the story. And speaking of the story, we're about to learn much more about it from the San Diego Comic-Con panel next Thursday. There is an issue with the Spider-Man 2 comic con panel though. The WGA writer's strike has already effected many of the hall H presentations and the actors strike would force the spider-man 2 voice actors to skip the Venom showcase.
