Mega Man 2 was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in North America on Christmas Eve of 1988, a follow-up just a year after the successful release of its predecessor, Mega Man. It increased the number of Robot Masters from 6 to 8, and also introduced the concept of "items", which would then be replaced in the 3rd game by Mega Man's Dogbot, Rush. Mega Man 2 is widely regarded as one of the best iconic 3rd party NES games on the market, and it's a well-deserved title, despite being a project that almost was canned before it was allowed to see the light of day. Mega Man 2 almost never got the green light after the mediocre sales of the 1st in the series, but a number of CAPCOM staff were allowed to work on it on their off-time, in tandem on other projects. Behold, the power of the passion project!
WedSNESday is the Level 0 NPCs weekly series where we play one older game for one episode, just to relive the nostalgia and maybe make your hump day just a little bit more fun.
