We went over inductive and abductive reasoning again today with more examples, and reviewed the quiz.

We then talked about a related concept, which is standards of evidence. Since abductive reasoning is not certain, how much confidence do you need to have in a proposition in order to, say, convict someone of murder, or to rule on a civil case, or to search someone on the street? There's actually a number of different answers to it.

In order of increasing evidence needed:
1) Stop and search someone (reasonable suspicion)
2) Get a warrant to search their house (probable cause)
3) Rule in favor of someone in a criminal case (preponderance of evidence)
4) Convict someone of murder (beyond a reasonable doubt)
