Quake 4 is a 2005 first-person shooter video game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. It is the fourth title in the Quake series, after the multiplayer Quake III Arena, and a sequel to Quake II. Raven Software collaborated with id Software, who supervised the development of the game as well as provided the id Tech 4 engine upon which it was built.

I wanted to go back and play a game that I haven't played in a long time, and also cover a game that I feel is often forgotten about or overlooked. And although Quake 4 is often looked down upon by people compared to the other entries in the series I think it is a perfect fit as I find that it is still very enjoyable to this day and I always have fun when I decide to go back and play it.

In terms of gameplay Quake 4 has a wide variety of different weapons that are familiar to the series that let Raven Software shine with there usual approach to combat. The wide arsenal also lets you really decide how you want to take on encounters making each playthrough different. There are also a wide variety of enemies seen throughout the game that are all fun to play against and get tough as the story progresses.
Something that Quake 4 does very well and I wish that a lot more FPS' did is the games ability to switch between full on combat and slower more atmospheric gameplay that gives the game an almost horror vibe at times.

Graphically the game is very nice to look at with the unique look the id Tech 4 engine has that makes the game stand out from others from the time with the engines brilliant lighting that adds to the almost horror tone at some points through the game that really have you asking if there is something lurking in the dark you can't see. I feel the game would really benefit from a remaster with how great the new Doom games look and would help reintroduce the series to new audiences.

The story and characters are nothing to write home about but just serve as a vehicle for the gameplay but I don't mind this because the game is still very fun to re visit.

For this playthrough we are using the Quake 4 Tweaker mod to fix texture bugs with the game, and the 4K AI upscale textures.
Don't be put off by having to tweak the game to get it running right as it literally takes 5 minutes to set up once everything is downloaded.

I hope you guys enjoy this series and looking back at an older game. If you like what you see make sure to like and subscribe for more
