What are Scalar Inferences or Scalar Implicatures?

Today I talked about something a bit different, something more theoretical and less clinically focused. We are discussing scalar implicatures or scalar inferences which is a phenomenon in the domain of linguistic psychology. A domain I'm not all that familiar with, but with this specific topic I am because of my thesis. It might not be a topic that garners widespread interest, but I felt like it might still be interesting for some people.
