What are "Snownadoes" or "Snow Devils"?
Have you ever heard of a "snownado" or "snow devil"? These natural phenomena are similar to tornadoes but form over snow-covered ground. They are caused by a temperature difference between the ground and the air above it, which creates a rotating column of air. Snownadoes are usually weaker than tornadoes, but can still cause damage to trees and other objects in their path.
Interestingly, there are other types of similar phenomena that form over different types of terrain, such as "dust devils" that form over dry land, and "waterspouts" that form over bodies of water. Additionally, some people have reported seeing "firenadoes" or "fire whirls" during wildfires, which are similar in appearance but are caused by the heat of the flames.
So next time you see a swirling column of snow on the ground, you'll know that it's not just a regular snowdrift!
