Travis Gafford - Senior Content Creator for CBS Interactive's Gamespot talks with Mark Register about what happened with Major League Gaming:

I mean everybody had been wondering what MLG was going to be doing for a while. Because for a while they were running all these tournaments and they had their pro circuit and I personally covered a lot of the events that MLG did around the US. And then I think over time you start to see those event decay and become like then there were only two and then there was only Anaheim which was only really the big one. Then they started saying ok well now we're going to become a streaming platform with MLG TV and compete with Twitch and Azubu and Hitbox. I think that, that never really took off, you know people were not really a big fan of the platform, their technology wasn't up to par with some of their competitors and just generally speaking their biggest problem was that they didn't really have very much content. Like as a League of Legends guy there wasn't anything on the MLG platform that I was particularly interested in. Which is a big problem because League is the biggest Esport. So I think for a while they had been taking, there have been a lot of investment rounds in that company for a long time because it's one of the longer standing North America Esports company and I think that ultimately...my guess is that they just started to feel like now was the time to sell when so many companies getting into Esports you're hearing more and more of these bigger media companies coming in and I think that for them they felt like you know selling the brand, selling the company was going to be a really good option for the situation that they were in because I think that they weren't going to be able to do much more on their own.
