What Happened To Ubisoft's Skull and Bones? (Skull & Bones Reboot)
620Ubisoft revealed Skull and Bones back during E3 2017, it was originally scheduled to release in 2018 but since then, there's been a number of different delays which has just kept pushing the game back. Now we are in 2021 and we still haven't got an exact Skull and Bones release date.
What Happened To Ubisoft's Skull and Bones? (Skull & Bones Reboot)
The Skull & Bones that was shown during E3 2017 is no more. Ubisoft Singapore has completely changed the Skull and Bones vision. Originally the Skull and Bones trailer showed us a combination of Assassins Creed Blag Flag mixed with an MMO. Players would customize their pirate captain, their pirate ship and sail off to take other pirates down, you could play solo or team up with other players. This was the original Skull and Bones gameplay but this has changed. Skull and Bones is now going do the live model, this means there will be more story elements and live events, the choices you make in these features will have an impact on the world. Ubisoft said they were inspired by what Epic Games was doing with Fortnite and they wanted a similar model. This is still a pirate game but the gameplay has change completely from what was first revealed.
With this big change, it obviously put Ubisoft back. During E3 2017, another pirate game was in talks of releasing in 2018, Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves has since had a number of updates and has grown a hardcore fan base behind it. They've even gone as far to add live events which is a big reason why Skull and Bones keeps getting delayed. Whilst Ubisoft is hesitant on releasing S&B, Rare has released Sea of Thieves and updated it to be a good game. Now the question is, can Ubisoft's Skull and Bones compete with Rare's Sea of Thieves?
