In actuality, Obito was never so much a bad guy as much as he was a misguided person. We say that so often about villains that it becomes cliche, but it’s not like it isn’t true. Generally most people aren’t just born evil, and need a reason to do the bad things. Dark deeds become end up excused for a lofty goal. Villains are inherently liars, but more generally, they are liars to themselves above anyone else. Every so often, you’ll find a villain who is objectively right, but the methodos become clear that they’re still villains. But villains further force you to wonder, what is a villain anyway? What is a hero? Should it be excused that one or two should suffer for an entire group of people? For an entire race? An entire world? We could go on and on about this concept, and I could just sit here and spin your head around, twisting your noodle into knots over the ideas of good and evil, or I could just tell you a story and leave the interpretation up to you. I’m leaning towards the latter.
