--- Description ---
This video shows that engineering is not just about building novel technologies. Engineering is about building character traits of courage, love, and perseverance. Engineering leads to a beautiful new reality; this creation requires inspiration and wonder, along with dedication and determination. Engineering innovations unite humanity, allowing individuals to bond in a shared admiration for engineering miracles. Ultimately, the power of engineering is represented by a bridge. These bridges connect humans with our innermost depths and our outermost realms. The first bridges, designed by civil engineers, physically connected humanity. Engineering then grew to include electrical bridges, designed by computer and electrical engineers, to enable digital connectivity. Engineering progressed to incorporate chemical bridges, manufactured by chemical engineers, to enable new materials for devices. Engineering now includes biological bridges found within antibodies and therapeutics, developed by biomedical engineers, to enable new medicines. From 1964 to 2014, engineers have built bridges across the nation and into the stars. By 2064, engineering may bridge distant galaxies together. Engineering not only physically transports individuals; it also transports the mind and imagination. Yet the constant underpinnings for the engineer, from childhood through college through professional engineering practice, are societal obligation and devotion to humanity. The qualities of the engineer are forged over a lifetime; just as engineering innovations improve and grow continually, the individual engineer also undergoes continuous improvement and growth in confidence, strength, and skill. The engineer is both arrow-smith and archer, forging new tools and shaping the direction of society toward enlightenment and human connection.
