At some point during a run in DayZ you'll need some storage, and if you haven't been lucky enough to find a tent, or have a hand-saw and nails to make some wooden crates, you may well want to consider the stick / leaf version of the improvised shelter, which has excellent camo when placed in the woods.
You'll need to make the improvised shelter kit from 4 sticks and some rope, but remember that you can make rope from two stacks of six rags. Once you've placed the kit, 4 long sticks and 50(!) sticks will allow you to assemble the shelter, so the only tools you might need are something to make the rags for rope, and preferable something to make gathering the sticks faster than just using your hands.
