Since 2008 authoritarian China has doubled income while the liberal West has seen little or no growth. Already the largest economy in the world, at this rate China will overtake even our income per head in just twenty years. Should we conclude that authority is essential in government and should it be strengthened? Or is greater democracy still the cure rather than the disease?
