What makes film adaptations succeed or fail? - A game to film analysis
I'm making my case that the core issue with failed adaptations is that the genre of the original work is shifted to something that no longer meshes well with the characters, story, setting, and other world building aspects of the writing.
I give examples of adaptations that have been received positively and poorly to show that adaptations that maintain the genre of the original work of fiction are well received while those that shift the genre are always met with massive backlash and suffer a tremendous amount of hate from the fans of the original work of fiction.
I also give a walk through of the Halo game mechanics to show how quickly you can identify the true genre of a video game hidden in its gameplay, and explain why this is vital for meeting the expectations of the intended audience. Every video game has its own unique mix of game mechanics, so you'll need to figure out how to identify the genre of a game you're curious about, but if you ask I may be able to help you identify the genre in the comment section or in a follow-up video after this one.
This video was filmed 6 months ago, and took this long for me to edit. Sorry if the timing is a little off in a few ways, but it still holds water.
I also regularly stream Halo Infinite as I make maps in its forge mode both here and on Twitch. If you want to catch me in a live stream to ask me questions directly I'm down to chat about just about any topic, and would love to talk more about the topic of this video.
