What REALLY Killed Fire Emblem Fates? (My take on the Censorship debate)
379I will take this time in the description to outline several questions I expect to receive a surplus of.
Q: What is your opinion on censorship in video games/Fates?
A: I dislike it for the most part, a majority of it is dialogue altered for no apparent reason and characters personalities changed weirdly as well. I however, have notices that a majority of this “censorships” are present in supports, child units and my castle features, all things that are 100% OPTIONAL FEATURES. As such I have learned to ignore it. This does not mean that it is in any way justified, many of the changes that were made are useless and superficial, making me question why it had to be changed at all. In a game like Tokyo mirage however, where cut scenes and entire plot points were changed, now I have a problem with the localisation. That being said, I’ll complain about Tokyo mirage’s censorship when they add Lyon to the game first. As far as fates is concerned, my main issues, (Corrin’s stupidity, The dumb as fuck villains, pointless awakening pandering and Inconsistent tone) are all present in the Japanese version as well. Think of it like this, if you have a pile of Japanese manure, and you add American manure to it, it’s still a giant pile of shit.
Q: Are you aware that by making this, and saying you’re against censorship, you are trying to justify it and are being a total hypocrite?
A: I am in fact, well aware of any hypocrisy I have created this video, I strongly despise censorship in media and films, TV shows, and video games should try their hardest to reflect the original artist’s intention. I AM NOT TRYING TO JUSTIFY CENSORSHIP, I’m trying to offer a viewpoint saying that crying censorship is not a viable criticism, and in the case of dual audio being removed, is an uninformed opinion. I DO NOT CONDONE TREEHOUSE, they can frankly, suck my ass.
Q: are you actually fucking stupid?
A: yes. I’m a game critic.
