The UNIVAC I was the first commercially available computer, released in 1951. It was created by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly and was used primarily for scientific and government purposes. The UNIVAC I was an enormous machine, weighing over 13 tons and taking up an entire room. It was also incredibly expensive, costing around $1 million.

Despite its size and cost, the UNIVAC I was a groundbreaking achievement in computer technology. It used magnetic tape for data storage and could perform complex mathematical calculations at lightning speed. In fact, it was used to predict the outcome of the 1952 presidential election, making it the first computer to be used for this purpose.

The UNIVAC I was eventually replaced by smaller and more efficient computers, but it remains a significant milestone in the history of computing. Without the UNIVAC I, the technology we have today may have never been possible.
