20zombie apocalypse and in VR, who doesn't love to be immersed in one?
In this video I will explain how to tweak the FOV and how the new vorpX profile works and plays.
Experiencing the scale in VR is what I love the most about games. I tend to play EVERYTHING in the headset. Zombie games, apocalypse survival games are so scary and immersive, the sounds, the visuals, the increased heart beat we get from it. It is a thrill!
Dead Island Definitive edition is an older game that can be played in a VR headset thanks to vorpX. I really wanted to make this work. So I started building a profile for it and I had a few questions for Ralf (vorpX creator), that started a long thread of emails and in a few hours time, we now have an official vorpX profile for the game.
One problem with Dead Island games is, the FOV (yuck) it is sooooo horrible for VR. So in this video I will show you how to bypass this and to increase the FOV to 120 (Horizontal) or higher (depending on your preference of course).

How to increase FOV?
01. Download and install 7-Zip (if you don't have it yet) from here: https://www.7-zip.org/
02. Run Dead Island Definitive Edition through Steam Library for the first time, let it load and then
close the game (that way, the game will write all the necessary files it needs).
03. Right click on the game's name in your steam library, in the drop down menu, select -
Properties...
04. The new window that opens. Make sure to uncheck - Use Desktop Game Theatre While
SteamVR is active
05. In the same window, Launch options, add the following: -nologos
06. For FOV change, right click on the name of the game in your Steam Library again and goto
Manage and then Browse Local Files. This will open up a new Windows explorer window of the
location of the Game's files.
07. Get into DI folder
08. In DI folder you will need a file called Data0.pak. RightClick on this file and select Add to
Data0.pak.rar, or .zip or whatever you use to optimise files, this will create a backup of the file
before we change anything)
09. After backing up and after installing 7-zip (stage number 01 of this instruction manual), right
click on Data0.pak file and in the menu that opens up, select 7-zip and then in the menu that
opens again, select open archive.
10. First we will not include the intro movies that could be annoying and too long, so, Go into - data
then into menu and then - movies. Locate a file called - intromovies.scr. Select it and then Right
Click on it and choose - Rename (or press F2). It will now be highlighted in blue and allow you
to rename the file. Just add an _ before the name.
11. Now go back up to data (inside 7-zip still) by clicking on the icon that looks like a folder with a
green arrow coming out of it.
12. once in data, look for a folder called - skills. Go into that folder.
13. Search for a file called - default_levels.xml. Select this file, then right click on it and choose
View (or press F3 while its selected)
14. A text file would open up for you. Do not be alarmed by all the text that is shown. Either go to
Edit and then choose Find... or, hold down CTRL key plus F key on your Keyboard. A new
window will open up called Find. In this window, type in fov. Then click on Find Next button.
15. The text file will drop us down to a location in the file and the word FOV will be highlighted in
blue (that was the word we were looking for and it is showing us it found it) - in the line where
it says - v=62.5 change the number to 89, 90 or whatever you find good for you. 89 will give you
120 FOV which is great for VR.
16. Go to File on top and click on save.
17. That is it for the FOV tweak.
