What are the best and worst ways to shuffle a standard deck of 52 cards? The absolute worst way to do it is with the overhand shuffle. You would need to do this 10 000 times to effectively randomize a deck. The next method is, like a kid, to mess them all up on a table for a full minute. The most effective method, mathematically, is the riffle shuffle. That’s with a deck split in half using your thumbs to riffle through them and push them together. For maximum randomness you need no less than 7 riffles. So now you know.
