A typeface is the design of a set of characters and a font is how that design is physically displayed, which includes the weight and the font size.

The sentence “subscribe to conjecture” is written with the typeface Garamond, but the font is Garamond semi bold 60 pt. And even though everything here is the typeface Garamond, each line is a unique font because the weight or size varies.

A way to remember the difference is that the word “typeface” comes from the face of the metal type used in the printing press; and the word “font” comes from the word foundry, a factory that manufactures the physical metal type.
