We're benchmarking the Intel APO tool on Intel's new Core i9-14900K CPU. APO is compatible with the "14th Gen" of Intel CPUs, including the i9-14900K and i7-14700K and KF models. This tech demo currently works on two games -- Metro: Exodus & Rainbow Six: Siege -- and boosts performance by better scheduling the threads. We also found that APO reduces inefficiency within the CPU by, somewhat ironically, minimizing E-core involvement in the processing of a heavy gaming workload. Although E-cores may be technically more efficient in their intended use case, like background tasks or lower intensity software, they can get in the way of applications that really just need access to high-performing cores (and maybe not even all of them).
