When we think of gaming heroes, we often imagine legendary developers or billionaire CEOs, but we rarely look at the translators who opened the door to gems that would never have left Japan. Today, it's time to mourn the passing of Andrew Dice ๐Ÿ˜”โœ๏ธ, writer and one of the founders of Carpe Fulgur, the small team in charge of translating indie games into Japanese for Western audiences๐Ÿ’Ž. His colleague Robin Light-Williams announced the sad news on social media, also confirming the closure of the studio. Without him, the work has come to an end. Now, the company has returned the rights to its translations to the developers. Dice didn't just adapt words, he gave them soul: in Trails in the Sky Second Chapter, he even edited a script with more text than The entire Lord of the Rings ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”ฅ. His work helped popularize Japanese indie games on Steam when no one else was interested in them, and thanks to him, titles that would have been forgotten became part of our history ๐ŸŽฎ๐Ÿ’–. Even this year, he was still active, reviewing offers and preparing an HD remaster of Recettear. Now the community mourns his passing, but also celebrates his legacy: Andrew taught us that translating games isn't about copying words, it's about opening up worlds so other people can enjoy them. ๐ŸŒโœจ
