When will Artemis 2 launch? Sending a crewed Orion to the Mun! | Kerbal Space Program
It’s been 20 days after Artemis 1’s last launch attempt so we might as well get on with it and do Artemis 2 in Kerbal Space Program!
I would have liked this to go out a week ago but I was moving house which took a lot longer than I expected.
Artemis 2 still has a lot of its details up in the air, so I’ve combined the latest trajectories along with any relevant mission data that has been proposed and discussed at length.
In all likelihood, by the time Artemis 2 launches in 2024/2025, I’d bet the mission will be completely different to what I’ve created here haha.

If you want to recreate Artemis 2 in Kerbal, here’s the Mission Plan scaled to KSP:
1. Launch Orbit 18.5 km x 286.1 km
2. Apoapsis burn to high orbit (286 km x 2810 km)
- High Earth Orbit with a period of 4 hours, 12 minutes.
- ICPS Separation;
3. 24 hours of craft checkout (2 hour 24 minutes)
- 3 mins of orbital proximity demonstrations for docking capabilities?
- High orbit apoapsis systems check
4. TLI injection at periapsis – main engine, retrograde flyby with free return trajectory
- ICPS: Burns into retrograde lunar escape orbit, will deploy Cube-sats along its way.
5. TLI Correction burns using the Aux engines (deactivate main engine)
6. Lunar Flyby at 750 km.
7. Return Trajectory Corrections with Aux Engines. Target orbit of 2.8 km x 222km
8. Separation from Service module.
9. Splash down east of the KSC (If you’ve managed to time it right!)
