White Day: A Labyrinth Named School | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
Way back when I was just a little kid a game was released on PC that offered a first-person horror experience in a Korean high school. By that time, I just had started to get interested in horror games and can still remember playing the first hour or so. It was a bit too difficult for me to understand what I had to do, but I was happy to find out that I could relive that past with the White Day remake this Halloween's season! White Day is a special celebration in various Asian countries where boys and men give candy and presents to their girlfriend or the girl they are interested in.
In this game it just so happens to be White Day as we find ourselves in school after closing hours when things start to get spooky. The gameplay really reminded me of games like Silent Hill which is not surprising since the original is from the early 2000's. I also really liked that there is a whole cast of characters you interact with. So many horror games nowadays just focus on one person or maybe some interaction with someone else via a radio or walkie talkie. It feels refreshing not being the only character in this haunting environment and I wish more developers would do this.
Though the game is really cool with some nice scares there are a couple of gripes with it. To experience the full game and all of the optional scares you need to play the game on Hard. That is what I did here, but only after I found out halfway through that there is scary content you won't see if you play it on Normal. Most of us probably play a game on Normal for the first time so I think that is a mistake to keep cool and creepy content behind a difficulty level. Especially without noting that in the game's options or anywhere else. Also, the janitors who patrol in the game are not scary and more annoying than anything. It sometimes felt like they were just there to make the gameplay last a bit longer since you had to slow down.
