While many players claim not to care about individual honors, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has taken the unusual position of lobbying for the MVP award. Paul George is expected to return Tonight against the Utah Jazz after missing the last 43 games with a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, sources confirmed to The Athletic. The L.A. Clippers have upgraded their star wing to questionable for Tuesday's game.
George suffered the injury on Dec. 22. The Clippers initially said on Dec. 25 that George would be out three to four weeks, but later announced in mid-January that his rest period would be extended.
George averaged 24.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game on the season prior to the injury. The Clippers, who have also been without All-Star Kawhi Leonard this season due to a knee injury, are eighth in the Western Conference at 36-39.
The Lakers reportedly offered Lue only a three-year deal—the same pact they eventually signed Vogel to—and wanted input on his staff. Lue declined, and in a recent interview with ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, explained that it was a matter of respect.
"The Lakers [saw it] more so as like [I'm just] coming to coach LeBron," Lue said. "No, I'm coming to win. I just didn't think I was treated fairly. And I wasn't just going to accept any offer just to get a job.
"I just thought I was better than that."
