People often think that the main purpose of a flash hider is to not give away a soldier's position. But they often forget that the muzzle blast can actually be very distracting to the shooter, especially in low light.

This video gives you an idea of how excessive the muzzle flash can be. The rifle I used is a Kel-Tec SU-16, and the ammunition is Chinese military surplus 5.56 M193 Ball.

And no, those impressive fireballs are not edited in any way, they are 100% real.
