The Winged Monkeys were first introduced by L. Frank Baum in his 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz", and since then they have become a cultural icon. Aside from their iconic appearance in the 1939 film starring Judy Garland and Margaret Hamilton, they have been featured prominently in the musical "the Wiz", Disney's "Oz the Great and Powerful" as well as Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" and the Stephen Schwartz musical it inspired.
However, the legacy of the flying monkeys reaches far beyond serving the Wicked Witch of the West, and that is what we're here to discuss today!
