Why Choose Gale of Waterdeep in Baldur's Gate 3 | Companion Short
Gale is an intriguing and complex character in Baldur's Gate 3. As a wizard and scholar from Waterdeep, he carries a wealth of knowledge and experience. He is an enigma with a mysterious past that he is initially reluctant to share. He is also a kind and caring companion, always ready to offer a helping hand to those in need.
Gale's magical abilities are his greatest strength. He and Wyll are the best two companions with amazing and effective AoE spells early on and throughout the game - should you never re- or double-class them.
He is a master of the arcane arts, with an impressive array of spells at his disposal. On two playthroughs, I double-classed him either as a fighter to offset his affinity to use medium gear and weapons without upsetting his spell casting or Cleric to offer upgraded armor and weaponry again, but with the healing options as well. Keeping him at a range can be difficult at times, and he becomes an easy target with light armor. He rarely initiates well, so he's either almost- or completely- KIA on the first turn, which is why double-classing him with a melee class helped a lot. Since Waterdeep is a large and heavily populated city, I found those two classes to complement Gale's character the best without extensively rewriting his background.
Regarding optimizing the Intelligence stat, the Wizard class stands out at the top as it is the ONLY class to do so. The Wizard's ability to effectively double-class with other options opens up a range of possibilities for creating a well-rounded and adaptable character.
Developing a relationship with Gale in Baldur's Gate 3 involves making choices that align with his values and personality. As a scholar and a wizard, Gale values knowledge and intellect. He is also a kind and caring companion, always ready to help those in need. You should consider making choices that reflect these traits to deepen your relationship with Gale.
For example, you can engage in conversations with Gale that showcase your own intelligence and knowledge (this helps with a wizard or a bard), as he appreciates individuals who share his passion for learning. Additionally, you can offer to help those in need when given the opportunity, as this aligns with Gale's compassionate nature.
However, be aware that Gale can sometimes be judgmental and condescending, especially towards those he deems inferior. So, you should try to avoid making choices that may come across as ignorant or ill-informed, as this may damage your relationship with him - he is quick to change directions.
Overall, to develop a strong relationship with Gale, it's important to showcase your intellect and compassion while avoiding choices that may offend or upset him, and despite his flaws, Gale is a valuable ally to have on your side. He is a loyal friend and a powerful wizard, always ready to lend his aid in the fight against evil. If you are looking for a companion who is both knowledgeable and compassionate, then Gale of Waterdeep is the perfect choice.
BTW: Gale is a legit "Wizard of the Coast."
