The initial hump of complex video games

There’s a lot of video games that requires time and patience to understand to a point that it’s enjoying rather than brain melting. Personally I play a lot of games that require the initial hump to get by to enjoy. Games like, tropico, factorio, oxygen not included. These are all games that you can just jump into with no prior knowledge and walk through with no issue. It takes some time to learn the game and the mechanics before the real enjoyment comes. But this means the amount of people that manage to get over that initial difficulty is lower and a lot of people give up before really enjoying the game. For me I seen this the most with tropico 5. A game now I can jump into and successfully run a game usually with no problem at all. In the beginning when I first started playing I had a really hard time managing all the different aspects of the game. Micromanaging all the statistics. Money, politics, manufacturing, transportation etc. But I enjoy the game tremendously now. The same thing can be seen with game with a very hard entry level skill gap. Such as rainbow six siege. Which requires a lot of map knowledge and positioning to fully play comfortably. Which is impossible to have when first jumping into a game. Making the amount of people who stick with the game long enough to enjoy a lot lower. I think if we gave games a little more time and effort before throwing in the towel there would be a lot of enjoyable experiences to be had past the hump. Let me know what you think down in the comments. Thanks so much for watching!
