Why did Japan lose World War 2? (Japan's WW2 Strategy...or lack thereof)
The main inspiration for this video was Saburo Ienaga's "The Pacific War: A critical perspective of Japan's role in World War 2", an excellent book on the japanese politics and culture in the lead up to ww2.
Other sources include "Kaigun: Strategy, tactics and technology in the IJN", "Japan's Total Empire", Wikipedia, and various online lectures. The idea of the video was to avoid spending too much time on battles and economics, which is what this kind of content is usually based on. The reason is that you can answer the question, why did japan lose ww2?, without even talking about the war itself, as the outcome was as close to a foregone conclusion as you can have. So why did the japanese make such a massive strategic blunder as to go to war in the first place? That is the real question of the video, and to answer it we need to take a look at the international situation of the time, why did japan fight china in the 2nd sino japanese war and japan's attitude as a whole.
