The battery life of your smartphone is significantly affected by the quality of your carrier's signal, and a device with an unstable connection uses more energy when continuously searching for a stable signal. In practical tests carried out with identical cell phones using chips from different carriers, it was found that the device that faced constant oscillations between 4G and 5G networks had a battery life up to 10 hours shorter. This phenomenon occurs mainly in shadow areas, characterized by the absence or weak signal intensity, which can be caused by blockers, physical structures such as buildings and warehouses, mountainous regions or places with limited antenna infrastructure.
Although 5G technology theoretically consumes less energy than 4G because it performs tasks more quickly and returns to a standby state, the still partial implementation of this network in Brazil results in irregular coverage, forcing devices to constantly switch between different bands. Each transition requires more processing and, consequently, higher energy consumption. Factors such as building materials (especially metal and glass), distance from telephone towers, network congestion and physical obstructions also interfere with the quality of the signal received, aggravating the problem. Experts recommend identifying which operator offers the best coverage in your region and, in areas with poor signal, consider activating airplane mode temporarily to save battery.
