Grew up on C64, Vic20, C128, ZX Spectrum and MSX. Consoles were not a big thing in my neck of the woods. In the last year of highschool I got myself a PC-XT and started PC gaming. I did bring my C64, PC-XT with me to college and actually ended up buying a famicom clone and a snes somewhere around '93 a little past the heyday of those systems. Also had a MSX-2 with me. The PC got upgraded a lot and I was mainly a PC gamer and even programmed that system in Assambly, GW/Q-Basic, Turbo Pascal. Always had a machine running Linux - yep I was running the early distributions too.
After graduating medical school I moved back into console gaming because I didn't want to remain trapped in the forever ongoing hardware upgrade cycles a PC gamer needs to do. So I decided to move back into console gaming and the Playstation was still going pretty strong. Gran Turismo was out and that was the must buy game for me. The original Playstation drew me into current console gaming and I even went out of my way to be able to play the Playstation games on my iMac and PCs using emulation techniques.
I chipped on of my Playstation systems in order to play backups and imports (mostly the latter) and actually traded in the first model I got for a Nintendo64.
I was always keeping an eye out on the Sega consoles and wanted to have those too but for some reason I ended up obtaining them much later on. Although I did play the consoles at friend's houses.
After that I got myself a Dreamcast, PS2 and Xbox and always kept on buying the current gen consoles and games. Of course when I could buy a complete Saturn collection including a console (with build in video cartridge for VideoCD playback) I was over the moon.
Playstation 3, Xbox360(slim) and Wii populate my gameroom. I think due to lack of room in the gameroom I'll pass on the Kinect and the Move for now... perhaps when a killer app shows up? Who knows.
