Why Early Access Games Fail
Early Access games are notorious for falling flat, full of bugs, bad gameplay, or maybe they’re never finished and left to rot. Think of games like Earth Year 2066, The War Z, and anything by Digital Homicide.
Despite these failings, Early Access’s poor reputation isn’t entirely deserved. There have been some great games to come out of the method, and there are plenty in Early Access now that are far from failures.
So what gives? Why do some indie games fail where others succeed? To answer that, we’re going to have to dig deeper, specifically into Steam, how game funding works, and the developers behind these games.
