Football or soccer or whatever you call it is changing. The European Super League is evidence that that change is reaching into even the most staunch sporting culture. The biggest clubs like Manchester United, Juventus, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern are all wrapped up in a conspiracy, without the negative connotations, to make themselves as much money as possible. The way to do that is to combine forces, which everyone has known for a while, is a cash cow. Welcome to the American sports model.

I don’t think it would be tragic, but I do think an important element of football or soccer is the homegrown nature of it. The super league would ruin this part of it for me. But, as things move global, it has to be inevitable. It’s not just the money pushing Man U, Bayern, and PSG together, it’s the ease at which it is now possible. In the next five years, the European Super League will be here visible.
