Some people might consider VR as nothing more than a fad - a gimmick - and often compare it to technology that has been hailed as 'the next big thing', only to fail a few years later.

It's a perfectly understandable opinion to have - we've been burned so many times in the past.

The Wii, 3DTVs and the Kinect could all fall into the category of 'gimmicky tech'. But is it fair to compare VR to these past examples so early?
