The Metal Gear Solid (MGS) series is a popular video game franchise created by Hideo Kojima. The series is known for its complex and often convoluted plotlines, filled with political intrigue, military conspiracies, and philosophical themes. Here is a brief overview of the main plot of the Metal Gear Solid series up to my knowledge cutoff in January 2022:
Metal Gear Solid (1998):
The first game in the series follows Solid Snake, a retired special forces operative, as he is brought out of retirement to infiltrate a nuclear weapons disposal facility known as Shadow Moses. The facility has been taken over by a terrorist group called FOXHOUND, led by Liquid Snake, who is revealed to be Solid Snake's genetically enhanced twin brother. The terrorists threaten to launch a nuclear-equipped walking tank called Metal Gear REX. As Snake progresses through the mission, he discovers the existence of a shadowy organization known as The Patriots.
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001):
The sequel features a new protagonist, Raiden, who is sent to infiltrate an offshore clean-up facility after the discovery of a new Metal Gear model, Metal Gear RAY. The story becomes increasingly complex as Raiden uncovers a conspiracy involving the Patriots, who control information and manipulate world events from behind the scenes. These games follow Big Boss as he establishes his private military company, Diamond Dogs, and faces the threat of a mysterious organization known as Cipher. The story delves into themes of revenge, betrayal, and the cost of war. The game also explores the transformation of Big Boss into the antagonist known as Venom Snake.
