Why Path Of Exile's Mystery Boxes Are A Bad Deal - POE
As much as I've been liking 3.15 I'm still willing to be negative when needed. Even leaving aside the (significant) ethical issues, lootboxes are an awful value proposition for most players.
I like these MTX and will likely buy most of them - in 4 months when they are for sale outside the boxes.
Average number of boxes needed ON AVERAGE to hit all 14 rares at least once each: 227
Average number of boxes needed ON AVERAGE to hit all 7 Overseer rares at least once each: 181.5
Average number of boxes needed ON AVERAGE to hit 4 specific rares: 145
Average number of boxes needed ON AVERAGE to hit all 12 uncommons at least once each: 106
Average number of boxes needed ON AVERAGE to hit all 12 commons at least once each: 82
TL:DW - don't buy them unless you tick all of these boxes:
- You STILL want almost everything in the box
- You have uses for multiple copies of hideout decor
- You wouldn't wait for a discount before purchasing the specific items you want
- You are confident in your ability to constantly reassess when to stop
Around 3 min 20 in, I mention that supporter packs are a better value proposition than point purchases - this only applies to people who care about the supporter pack cosmetics; which I assume is everyone who considers a cosmetic mystery box purchase.
You can buy some POE microtransactions and/or games from my Nexus store, and I'll get a cut. Link: https://www.nexus.gg/sirgog
I also have a merch store at https://merch.streamelements.com/sirgog if you want to buy anything there and can take tips at https://streamelements.com/sirgog/tip
