Why The Autobots Didn't Really Transform onscreen in Transformers 4. Age of Extinction brought on a lot of change in the Bayverse. Gone were the days of the Government working alongside the Autobots. Instead, they were hunted down and killed by Cemetery Wind. But we did get a new group of Autobots who had more humanoid designs and were based on human warriors from different eras. Which left fans split down the middle. On 1 hand you had fans who appreciated how they weren’t overly complex. But others pointed out that the complexity served a purpose in the first 3 films. Because the Transformers were able to properly transform without any mass shifting. But when it came to Age of Extinction transforming was almost non-existent. As a matter of fact, Drift was the only Autobot to have an on-screen transformation which was his helicopter mode. The 1 we got for Bumblebee only showed his car parts folding before it cuts away and shows him walking in robot mode. And we didn’t get to see the start of Optimus transforming into his new knight robot mode. Because the new designs weren’t made with transforming in mind. Which also explains why the toys were so ugly
