Why Was The Switch So Successful After The Failure Of The Wii U?
The Nintendo Switch will probably end up being my favorite console of all time. I'm already saying this, even when we've only seen about 10-20% of this consoles lifetime. The Switch got me back into following video game releases, just like a lot of other people. But it wasn't always this way. The console that came before the Nintendo Switch, the Wii U, was a commercial failure. It still had some great games on the platform but I fell short in its overall design. The Wii U didn't set itself apart from the competition in a good way. It's a weird controller that people thought was an add on for the Wii, was the first biggest flaw. It made it extremely hard for developers to bring their games over to Nintendo since they would have to start from the ground up in order to make it run correctly on the Wii U. Luckily this speed bump didn't deter Nintendo from flexing its creative muscle. If you go back and look at the Wii U, you can really see what direction Nintendo was trying to go in with the Wii U gamepad. It just took them a few more years to perfect the design, which became the Switch. Nintendo could have decided to just drop the gamepad design in its entirety and go for a more ordinary-looking console, but that isn't Nintendo. They are the innovators that other companies look to when they run out of ideas. I'm extremely overjoyed to see Nintendo back on top with their latest console and I can't wait to see what they do with it next.
This video took me about a month to bring it all together from writing the script, to getting the gameplay, recording the game footage, and editing it all together. This was the first research piece style video that I have done and let me know if you want to see more of them! Thanks so much for watching and reading.
